4-Nitroisoquinoline is a nitro compound that can be synthesized from 4-nitrotoluene. It is a nucleophilic reactant and has been used in biomolecular synthesis. 4-Nitroisoquinoline is also hydrated and has two isomers, the α and β forms. The α form can be produced by reacting with sodium hydroxide, while the β form can be produced by reacting with sodium methoxide. This chemical has been shown to have phosphatase activity as well as covalent and ionic forms. Hydration of 4-nitroisoquinoline produces 2 molecules of water per molecule of chemical, which may account for its high yield.
