Description:

4-Nitrophthalide is a chemical compound that belongs to the group of phthalides. It has been shown to be cytotoxic against gram-negative bacteria, including Artemia, and has shown activity against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. 4-Nitrophthalide can also inhibit bacterial growth by interfering with the synthesis of DNA. The mechanism of action of 4-nitrophthalide is not well understood but may involve catalytic interactions with o-toluic acid or palladium. 4-Nitrophthalide can be used in elemental analysis to determine the presence of gold, silver, platinum, palladium, and mercury compounds.
