Product Information
- 2-Nitro-3-Oxoprop-1-En-1-Olate
- sodium N-oxido-1,3-dioxopropanimine oxide hydrate
- Sodium nitromalonaldehyde monohydrate
Nitromalonaldehyde sodium (NMAL) is a nitro-substituted monohydroxylated alkyl aldehyde. NMAL has been shown to have cytotoxic effects on mammalian cells, and can inhibit the proliferation of human cancer cells. This compound also has the ability to inhibit hyperproliferative disorders by binding to cation channels that are found in the cell membrane. The nitro group of NMAL reacts with the hydroxyl group of the amino acid cysteine and forms an adduct that is then able to bind to cation channels in the cell membrane and block ion flow, leading to cell death.
