1-(5-Nitropyridin-2-yl)piperazine is an antibacterial agent with a broad spectrum of activity. It is active against Gram-positive bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), and Gram-negative bacteria, such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa. 1-(5-Nitropyridin-2-yl)piperazine inhibits the growth of bacteria by inhibiting bacterial DNA synthesis. The inhibitory concentration varies among different types of bacteria and ranges from 0.03 μg/mL to 10 μg/mL. This drug has been shown to be effective against oxazolidinones, epidermidis, and insecticidal activities in the moth P. xylostella.
