Synonyms:
  • 2(3H)-Benzothiazolone, 6-nitro-

Description:

6-Nitro-2-benzothiazolinone is a nitroalkyl that is used in the synthesis of benzothiazolones. It is also used to produce 2-nitrobenzaldehyde, which can be used as a starting material for the production of other compounds. 6-Nitro-2-benzothiazolinone has been shown to promote the formation of callus tissue and shoots in cultured potato cells and has been suggested as a possible treatment for cancer. The mechanism of action may be due to its ability to activate cellular responses by mimicking an endogenous growth factor, or "pharmacophore".
