5-Nitrobenzothiophene is an organic compound that is used in the synthesis of other compounds. It is a white crystalline solid that can be obtained by electrolysis of a mixture of benzene and nitrobenzene. 5-Nitrobenzothiophene has been shown to inhibit tumour growth in mice, as well as lung fibroblast proliferation, which may be due to its ability to act as a structural analogue of amines in the reaction system. 5-Nitrobenzothiophene also has been shown to exhibit immunosuppressive properties, which may lead to its use in autoimmune diseases.
