Product Information
- carbamimidothioic acid, N'-nitro-, methyl ester
- Methyl N'-nitrocarbamimidothioate
N-Nitro-S-methylisothiourea is a synthetic molecule that inhibits the growth of some organisms by binding to their target enzyme, thereby preventing electron transfer. The compound has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in vitro and has also been found to be effective against strains of bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics. N-Nitro-S-methylisothiourea binds to chloride ions and forms a covalent bond with the protein target, which prevents electron transfer. This prevents DNA replication and protein synthesis, leading to cell death. N-Nitro-S-methylisothiourea is highly soluble in water. It is synthesized by reacting an organometallic reagent such as methyl magnesium bromide with nitrous acid. X-ray crystal structures have been determined for this compound at both low and high resolution. The melting point of N-Nitro-S-methylisothiourea is high, at around 250°
