Product Information

Name:
2-NAPHTHALENEMETHYLAMINEHYDROCHLORIDE
Synonyms:
  • 2-Naphthalenemethylamine Hydrochloride
Description:

2-Naphthalenemethyl amine hydrochloride is a nucleic acid that has been used to study the binding of oligonucleotides and duplexes. This compound is a derivative of naphthalene, which may be synthesized by reacting phenylmagnesium bromide with 2-aminonapthalene in the presence of water and sodium chloride. The synthesis of this compound can be improved by using a dry solvent system. The crystal structure has been determined for duplexes containing 2-naphthylmethyl amine hydrochloride and for dna duplexes containing 2-naphthylmethyl amine hydrochloride bound to thymine residues. These structures reveal that the molecule adopts a helical conformation, with the methyl group on one side of the DNA backbone and the naphthalene moiety on the other side. Hydration is important for determining stability in these structures, as well as in other biomolecular
