Bortezomib is a boronic acid that inhibits the proteasome, which is an enzyme that breaks down proteins into smaller components. Bortezomib is a heterocycloalkyl with a boron-containing residue and has been shown to be effective in treating lung cancer cells. The profile of this drug was studied using stereoisomers, cellular assays, and immunosuppressive assays. Bortezomib has been shown to have immunosuppressive activity by inhibiting T-cell proliferation. It also inhibits the production of inflammatory cytokines and chemokines, as well as the expression of adhesion molecules on endothelial cells. The optimal dose for bortezomib treatment is not known at this time.
