- 6-hydroxy-5-nitropyridin-2(1H)-one
3-Nitropyridine-2,6-diol is a cyclizing agent that converts nitropyridine to 3-(1H-imidazol-3-yl)pyridine. It is used in the synthesis of acrylates and sulfuric acid esters. 3-Nitropyridine-2,6-diol can be used as a reagent for cyclizing nitroarenes to form pyridines. The reaction is catalyzed by sulfuric acid and sulfuric acid esters. This compound is also used as a chlorinating reagent in the preparation of alkenes and alkynes.
