Nicotinamide-N-oxide is an n-oxide of nicotinamide that has been shown to have antioxidant properties and may be used for the treatment of cancer. Nicotinamide-N-oxide is a coordination compound that binds to nicotinamide and prevents it from reacting with reactive oxygen species. It has been shown to have tumor treatment effects in HL60 cells. The mechanism of action is not yet fully understood, but it may be due to its ability to reduce oxidative stress or inhibit the production of inflammatory cytokines. Nicotinamide-N-oxide also has anti-obesity effects by increasing fat oxidation, which can help regulate metabolic disorders in diabetic patients. The study demonstrated that nicotinamide-N-oxide increased postprandial plasma glucose levels, but did not affect postprandial blood insulin levels in rats fed a high fat diet.
