(1R)-(+)-Nopinone is a chiral molecule that has been used for the synthesis of β-pinene, which is an important component of volatile oils. The (+) form of this molecule has been shown to be a better catalyst than the (-) form. This compound crystallizes in an orthorhombic system and has been quantified as having a boiling point of 160°C. It also transforms into its enol form, which is more active than (1R)-(+)-nopinone itself.
