- 4-Methylmorpholin-2-one
N-Methyl-2-morpholinone is a piperazine derivative that is used in the synthesis of amines and morpholine derivatives. It is an optimal reagent for thermal reactions, with a maximum reaction temperature of 160°C. The reaction can be carried out in dimethylformamide or diethanolamine. N-Methyl-2-morpholinone is also used as an ionization detector for gas chromatography, when it reacts with dimethylamine to form methylated amines. In this way, the detection limit for compounds such as trimethylamine, triethylamine, and methylbenzylamine can be lowered to parts per million levels. The kinetic constants for N-methyl-2-morpholinone have been determined experimentally by measuring the rate of disappearance of the compound from solution at different concentrations and temperatures.
