N-Methyl-4-nitrosoaniline is a white crystalline solid that has been shown to be an excellent precursor for the synthesis of many organic compounds. It is synthesized from methyl ethyl amine and nitrous acid in the presence of a strong base. The tautomeric form of N-methyl-4-nitrosoaniline, which is its reversible conversion between the keto and enol forms, can be observed using conductance measurements. This reaction occurs through a chain reaction mechanism, where hydroxide ions are used as the attacking species. The product of this reaction is N-methyl-2-nitrosoaniline.
A kinetic study was conducted on the conversion of N-methyl-4-nitrosoaniline to N-methyl 2 nitrosoaniline under different conditions and concentrations. A linear relationship was found with respect to time between the concentration and rate constant for this reaction.END>>
