Naftifine is a glycol ether with antifungal properties that is used to treat mycological infections. It has been shown to inhibit the enzyme activities of epoxidases and lipases, which are enzymes that play an important role in the infection process. Naftifine also inhibits the growth of infectious fungi such as Candida albicans, Cryptococcus neoformans, and Aspergillus fumigatus. This drug can cause drug interactions with other anti-infective agents due to its ability to inhibit the cytochrome P450 system. The stability of naftifine in vitro has been tested using a model system and found to be stable at 37°C for 24 hours. Naftifine is not active against bacteria or viruses because it does not bind to bacterial ribosomes or viral nucleic acids.
