Naphthol AS-BI N-acetyl-beta-D-galactosaminide
Synonyms:
  • 2-Naphthalenecarboxamide, 3-[[2-(acetylamino)-2-deoxy-β-D-galactopyranosyl]oxy]-7-bromo-N-(2-methoxyphenyl)-
  • 3-[[2-(Acetylamino)-2-deoxy-β-D-galactopyranosyl]oxy]-7-bromo-N-(2-methoxyphenyl)-2-naphthalenecarboxamide
Description:

Naphthol AS-BI N-acetyl-beta-D-galactosaminide is a chromogenic substrate that is used in enzymatic assays to detect the presence of beta-galactosidase. It has been shown to be an effective substrate for beta-galactosidase, which cleaves naphthol AS-BI N-acetyl-beta-D-galactosaminide into the fluorescent product naphthol AS, and the nonfluorescent product β-D galactopyranoside. The reaction is dependent on the addition of Mg2+ and catalysed by β galactosidase. It is also used as a fluorogenic substrate in chemiluminescence assays to measure enzyme activity.
Naphthol AS-BI N acetyl beta D galactosaminide may be used in food testing for lactose content, bioluminescence testing for bacterial contamination,
