Product Information

Name:
Niclosamide monohydrate
Synonyms:
  • 5-Chloro-N-(2-chloro-4-nitrophenyl)-2-hydroxybenzamide hydrate2',5-D733ichloro-4'-nitrosalicylanilide hydrateBayluscid
Description:

Niclosamide is a water-soluble drug that is used for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease. It is a prodrug for niclosamide, which has been shown to be more potent than niclosamide monohydrate. Niclosamide binds to the worm's tegument and prevents it from absorbing nutrients. The drug also prevents the production of prostaglandins in the prostate gland, which may be involved in some types of prostate cancer. Niclosamide can also inhibit microbial growth and has been shown to be active against resistant strains of bacteria. Niclosamide has been found to form stable complexes with hydrochloric acid and ethanolamine, which may account for its high solubility in water.
