N-Nitro-diphenylamine is a carbamate with high specificity and stability. It is also a carcinogen that inhibits cell growth in human keratinocytes in vitro. N-Nitro-diphenylamine is used as a stabilizer for polyvinyl chloride products and other plastics, but can be released into the environment by degradation of the plastic material. It has been shown to cause death in animals through nitrite formation, which leads to methemoglobinemia. N-Nitro-diphenylamine is not regulated by the U.S. EPA, but it may be regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or other regulatory agencies depending on its intended use.
