4-Nitro-L-phenylalanine hydrate is a chemical compound that has been shown to have antidiabetic properties. It is an intermediate in the synthesis of several medicines, including 4-nitrophenyl ester, which is used as a lead compound for the synthesis of other drugs. The reaction product of 4-nitro-L-phenylalanine hydrate with methyl chloride produces methyl ester and leads to the production of L-phenylalanine monohydrate. The synthesis method is high yielding and can be carried out under mild conditions.
