Product Information

Name:
3-Nitronaphthalene-2-methanol
Synonyms:
  • 2-Nitro-3-naphthalenemethanol3-Nitro-2-naphthalenemethanol
  • 3-Nitro-2-Naphthalenemethanol
Description:

3-Nitronaphthalene-2-methanol is a fluorescent compound that can be used to monitor the growth of microorganisms. It has been shown to have antimicrobial properties against Gram-positive bacteria and fungi, but not Gram-negative bacteria. 3-Nitronaphthalene-2-methanol is conjugated with biomolecules such as hippuric acid or cicer arietinum, which allows it to bind to cell walls of microorganisms. The conjugation process makes the nitronaphthalene more hydrophilic and increases its fluorescence, which can be monitored using spectroscopy techniques.
