N-Nitroso-N-ethylbutylamine is an organic compound that is a nitrosamine. It can be used as a model system for the study of nitrosamines, which are carcinogenic agents. N-Nitroso-N-ethylbutylamine has been shown to cause DNA damage and inhibit cell growth in cultured animal cells. The effects of this agent on the esophagus have been studied using a model system of tissue and cells. This study suggests that dietary N-nitroso compounds may be a risk factor for esophageal cancer.
