Description

(-)-Normetazocine is a glycol ether that is used as a solvent in analytical chemistry. It is also used as a treatment for bowel disease and may be a potential biomarker of the disease. (-)-Normetazocine has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit calcium pantothenate, an enzyme activity that catalyzes the conversion of pantothenic acid into coenzyme A, which is an important component of energy metabolism. (-)-Normetazocine has been shown to have liver lesions in rats, but this effect has not been seen in humans. This may be due to differences in absorption rates or metabolism between species.
