Northiaden is a non-selective serotonin uptake inhibitor that inhibits the uptake of serotonin by neurons. It is used in the treatment of depression and some types of cancer. Northiaden has been shown to be effective in vitro against antidepressant drugs, including tricyclic antidepressants. Northiaden has also been shown to have an inhibitory effect on the uptake of serotonin in vivo in animal models. This drug can also be detected in body fluids such as blood, urine, and cerebrospinal fluid.
Northiaden works by binding to specific receptors at synapses and then inhibiting the synthesis of serotonin neurotransmitters, which are released after a nerve impulse passes through a neuron.
