Description

Nitroscanate is a nitro compound that is used as an anthelmintic drug. Nitroscanate is a white powder with a molecular weight of 200.07 and consists of two nitrogen atoms bonded to six carbon atoms, which are bonded to one hydrogen atom. It has a hydrochloride salt form and the chemical formula C6H12N2O2Cl. Nitroscanate is used in the treatment of endoparasites such as tapeworms and roundworms. It exerts its effects by interfering with cellular protein synthesis, causing death of parasites. Nitroscanate also causes a decrease in the activity of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase, which leads to increased transmission of nerve impulses at neuromuscular junctions and paralysis in insects.
