Description

1-Naphthylamine-7-sulphonic acid is a zwitterion that is fluorescent and can be used as a detector for fluorescence. It can be used to measure the concentration of naphthalene in water, because it reacts with this compound through sulfonation. This reaction results in the formation of 1-naphthylamine-7-sulphonic acid, which is soluble in water. The sulfonic acid group on the molecule makes it acidic and therefore reactive. 1 -Naphthylamine 7-sulphonic acid reacts with amines to form sulfonamides, which are more soluble than their corresponding salts. This reaction also occurs when chloride ions are present, which may occur due to environmental pollution.
