Product Information
- 4-Nitro-propionylanilide
- N-(4-nitrophenyl)propanamide
p-Nitropropionanilide is a nitro compound that is used as a bactericidal agent in the treatment of infections. It binds to extracellular proteins, such as those found on gram-negative bacteria, and forms an acetonitrile adduct that inhibits bacterial growth by competing with amino acids for transport across the cell membrane. p-Nitropropionanilide has been shown to be effective against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, even at concentrations below its bactericidal concentration. The drug is only active against gram-negative organisms and has neutral pH optima. p-Nitropropionanilide can be extracted from water using an organic solvent such as acetonitrile.
