Nickel dibutyldithiocarbamate (NDTC) is a chemical compound that is used in the laboratory as a reducing agent. It has a hydroxyl group, which provides the molecule with an electron-donating ability. NDTC is stable to light and heat, but can be decomposed by strong oxidizing agents. NDTC exhibits kinetic data such as light emission, which occurs when it is reduced by sodium citrate and methyl ethyl tetrazolium dye. The metal hydroxides that are produced from this reaction can be detected by nitrogen absorption spectroscopy or atomic absorption spectroscopy. Sodium carbonate reduces NDTC to zinc diethyldithiocarbamate, which then reacts with diphenyl ether to form fatty acid and dibutyl polyene.
