2-Nitro-4-(trifluoromethyl)benzonitrile is a copper salt that is used to synthesize anilines. It can be produced by the reaction of nitrobenzene with chlorine and magnesium in an organic solvent, such as n-dimethyl formamide. The product can be purified by recrystallization. The yield of this reaction is dependent on the reaction time. 2-Nitro-4-(trifluoromethyl)benzonitrile reacts with fluorine to produce a haloalkyl group. This compound has been shown to be virulent in mice and rabbits.
