Description:
3-Nitroquinoline is a nitro compound that has been shown to inhibit the production of the growth factor epidermal growth factor. It also inhibits the proliferation of cancer cells by binding to deoxyguanosine in DNA, resulting in DNA strand breakage. 3-Nitroquinoline is metabolized into a cytotoxic product, which leads to the death of cancer cells. The mechanism of action for this compound is through an electrostatic reaction with DNA, which causes depurination and results in cell death. 3-Nitroquinoline has been used as a potential treatment for polycythemia vera and myelodysplastic syndrome because it inhibits hepcidin production.
