It reacts with nitrate to form the corresponding nitrosobutyric acid, which can then be reduced to butyric acid. The reaction rate of (S)-N-Boc-3-Bromophenylalanine depends on the concentration of reactants and temperature. This product can also be used to synthesize triacetate by reacting with chloroacetic acid and sodium nitrate. The layered structure of (S)-N-Boc-3-Bromophenylalanine can be seen in the reaction between it and potassium chloride. When heated, this product will recrystallize from a chloride solution and glycerin, yielding potassium chloride and pentaerythritol oxide as byproducts.
