L-Norleucinol is an enantiomer that has been synthesized from D-glucose. It is a thiosugar that can be used as an analytical reagent for the determination of optical rotation and chiral purity. L-Norleucinol has been shown to have anti-inflammatory activities, which may be due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis. It is also used in the derivatization of amino alcohols with fluorescamine for detection by fluorescence detector.
