D-Norvalinol is a synthetic enantiomer of norvaline. It is an enhancer that can be used as a coupling agent in the synthesis of benzofuran derivatives and catecholamines. D-Norvalinol has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of the enzyme dopamine β-hydroxylase, which catalyzes the conversion of dopamine to norepinephrine, leading to increased levels of norepinephrine in the brain. This drug has also been shown to be an enantioselective synthetic intermediate for the preparation of α-amino acids. The crystallographic structure of this substance has been determined by x-ray crystallography.
