4-Nitrophenylsuccinic acid is a hydrocarbon that is a precursor in the formation of phenyl succinic acid during the Friedel-Crafts reaction. The phenyl group is introduced by condensations with aromatic compounds, such as benzene, to form an aromatic hydrocarbon. 4-Nitrophenylsuccinic acid is also used to produce phenylalanine and vitamin B6.
