Nortropine hydrochloride is an alkanoic acid that has a phenolic hydroxyl group. It is a neuroleptic, which means it blocks the effects of dopamine and serotonin in the brain by acting as an antagonist at receptors. Nortropine hydrochloride is soluble in water and chloroformate, but not soluble in ethanol or ether. Nortropine hydrochloride has been shown to be effective as an anti-inflammatory agent due to its inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis and also has sedative properties.
