Product Information

Name:
5-Nitro-2-oxy indole
Synonyms:
  • 5-Nitro-2-oxindole
  • 5-Nitroindolin-2-One
  • 5-nitro-1,3-dihydro-2H-indol-2-one
  • 5-Nitrooxidole
Description:

5-Nitro-2-oxy indole is a mitochondrial inhibitor that inhibits the production of ATP and glucose by inhibiting β-unsaturated ketone reductase. It has been shown to be cytotoxic in vitro against cancer cells, but is not active against bacteria. 5-Nitro-2-oxy indole has also been shown to inhibit the activity of serine proteases, which are enzymes involved in inflammation and other diseases. 5-Nitro-2-oxy indole binds to the active site of serine proteases with a pharmacophore similar to that of other inhibitors. This binding prevents the enzyme from binding a specific substrate, such as tyrosine kinase or ammonium nitrate, and prevents activation of the enzyme.
