Description:

2-(1-Naphthyl)ethanesulfonyl Chloride (2-NAPS) is a regioselective sulfonylation agent that can be used in the synthesis of steroids. It is a highly selective catalyst for the sulfonylation of aromatic rings, and it has been shown to be effective in the synthesis of 2-naphthylsulfonic acid. 2-NAPS is also able to give high yields with little or no byproducts. The selectivity of this reagent is due to its intramolecular orientation, which prevents side reactions such as oxidation.
2-(1-Naphthyl)ethanesulfonyl Chloride (2-NAPS) belongs to the class of organosulfur compounds known as thiophenesulfonates.
