Naphtho[2,3-a]pyrene is an organic compound with the molecular formula C20H12. It is a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon that is used as a reagent in analytical chemistry. In microscopy, it can be used to stain herringbone structures in thin sections of organic solids. Naphtho[2,3-a]pyrene has two structural isomers: naphtho[1,2-a]pyrene and naphtho[1,2-b]pyrene. The two isomers are distinguished by their respective resonance mass and molecule shape. The chromatographic separation of the two isomers can be achieved using a number of different stationary phases. Synchronous fluorescence spectroscopy has been used to study the transfer mechanism associated with these compounds. Fluorescent compounds such as naphtho[2,3-a]pyrene can be analyzed using particle counting techniques or analytical chemistry
