4-Nitro-2-(trifluoromethyl)benzoic acid is a synthetic compound that can be prepared by the crotylboration of 4-nitrobenzoyl chloride with boron trifluoride etherate. This compound exists as two isomers, which differ in the position of the trifluoromethyl group on the benzene ring. The thermal expansion and vibrational spectra are predictable for each of these isomers and they have been shown to react with nitro groups in an unsymmetrical way to form polymers. The melting point of this compound is predicted to be between 215 and 226 degrees Celsius.
