Product Information
Narumicin I is a natural substance that belongs to the class of ester derivatives. It has been found in the extract of Termini and has been shown to have antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive bacteria such as Bacillus cereus and Staphylococcus aureus. Narumicin I was originally extracted from Taraxerol, an extract derived from the leaves of Termini, which also contains other substances that may contribute to its antibiotic properties. The structure of narumicin I was elucidated by means of NMR spectroscopy and gas chromatography. Narumicin I is a modular molecule, with one ethyl acetate group connected to benzyl alcohol through a butenolide ring. The structure consists of two terminal methyl groups and one terminus on the opposite side. However, it is not clear how narumicin I interacts with bacterial cells or what its mode of action might be.
