4-Nitro-1,2,3,-triazole is a nitro compound that is used as an anticancer agent. It has been shown to be cytotoxic to solid tumours in animal models and has been studied for its effects on hypoxic tumor cells. This drug has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells by inhibiting the metabolic rate of these cells. 4-Nitro-1,2,3,-triazole also binds to nitrogen atoms in the DNA molecule, preventing the formation of hydrogen bonds and covalent linkages that are needed for DNA replication.
