Nigakinone is a natural compound that has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties. The effects of nigakinone on chronic arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, and skin cancer were evaluated using in vitro cell culture models. The molecular docking analysis revealed that nigakinone can bind to the active site of matrix metalloproteinase-13 (MMP-13) and inhibit its activity. Nigakinone was shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria in an infectious model. It also has activity against chronic arthritis and other diseases by inhibiting the production of inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, and MCP-1.
Nigakinone is extracted from the root of Chinese herb "Nigella sativa". It is prepared for administration as a suppository or tablet.
