Description:

Nonacosane is a fatty acid and a natural compound that belongs to the class of anti-infective agents. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria and fungi, as well as being an effective agent against viral diseases. Nonacosane has been shown to inhibit the growth of microbial infections such as tuberculosis, staphylococcus, candida, and herpes simplex virus. This active form inhibits the synthesis of proteins by binding with ns3 protease in bacterial cells. Nonacosane also inhibits the production of inflammatory cytokines and growth factors-β1 (GF-β1) in tissue culture cells. Nonacosane is synthesized from taraxasterol acetate through an asymmetric synthesis reaction with sodium ethoxide.
