Description:

4-Nitrostilbene is a light emitting molecule that has been extensively studied for its use in organic light-emitting diodes. It is soluble in a variety of solvents and exhibits fluorescence, which can be used to study the molecule's optical properties. 4-Nitrostilbene has also been shown to exhibit an intense blue shift when excited by ultraviolet radiation. This property makes it a promising candidate for future organic light emitting diodes. 4-Nitrostilbene is also a member of the stilbene derivatives, which have been extensively studied for their optical and electronic properties. The functional theory behind these molecules is that they are electron deficient, due to the absence of electrons on one or more of their atoms. This causes them to exhibit strong UV absorption and emission, as well as red shifts when excited by visible light.
