5-Nitro-2-(trifluoromethyl)pyridine (5N2-TFP) is a reactant that reacts with aryl chlorides to form substituted pyridines. 5N2-TFP is activated by the addition of copper and dibromodifluoromethane, which interacts with the chlorine to form a reactive intermediate. This intermediate reacts with the aryl chloride to produce trifluoromethylated products. 5N2-TFP has ortho and para selectivity, which is determined by the reaction medium.
