Nickel(II) Hexafluoroacetylacetonate (NiFAC) is a magnetic and water-soluble nanomaterial. It has been shown to be useful for the preparation of DNA samples, as well as in catalytic reactions. NiFAC can be used to prepare polymers with controlled properties and is often used in polymerase chain reactions. NiFAC can exist in five different crystal forms, each with a different symmetry and structure. These polymorphs are hexagonal, monoclinic, orthorhombic, tetragonal, and rhombohedral. The structure of NiFAC is closely related to its catalytic activity as well as its toxicity.
