3-[2-Nitro-4-(trifluoromethyl)phenoxy]aniline is a nitro-substituted phenoxy compound that has been used as a reagent for the synthesis of peptides. It is also an effective catalyst for the hydrolysis of tert-butyl esters. The product can be crystallized from the reaction mixture by adding a small amount of water and heating to 80°C. 3-[2-Nitro-4-(trifluoromethyl)phenoxy]aniline reacts with thiols to form thiocyanates, which are stable compounds. This product yields high yields of cysteine when reacted with acid derivatives.
