Carbidopa is a drug that is used to treat Parkinson's disease and high blood pressure. It is a racemic mixture of two enantiomers, (±)-N-Carbamoyl-4-(9H-carbazol-4-yloxy)-1-[2-(2-methoxyphenoxy)ethylamino]butan-2-ol. Carbidopa also reduces the production of L-type calcium currents in cardiac myocytes by binding to the ryanodine receptor and reducing sarcoplasmic Ca2+ overload in cardiac muscle cells.
