Trans-2-octenoic acid ethyl ester is a component of aldehydes that are produced by the oxidation of linoleic acid or oleic acid. Trans-2-Octenoic acid ethyl ester is also a marker for infectious diseases, such as tuberculosis or malaria. This fatty acid can be used to study antibiotics profiles because it is active against bacteria like methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
