Product Information
2-Oxa-1,4-butanediol diacetate is a guanine nucleotide analog that inhibits the replication of viruses. It is used in the treatment of infectious diseases, such as herpes and influenza. 2-Oxa-1,4-butanediol diacetate reacts with the virus to form a covalent bond between one of its nucleobases and the viral DNA polymerase. This reaction yields a regiospecific product that prevents further synthesis of viral DNA. The acidic nature of this compound allows it to react with dioxolane in refluxing conditions, generating an acid catalyst for the reaction.
