Description

(2S)-N-[(2S)-1-Oxo-3-Phenylpropan-2-Yl]-2-[(2,2,2-Trifluoroacetyl)Amino]Propanamide is a dipeptide that has been found to catalyse the reaction of protonation and nucleophilic substitution on a number of substrates. This compound has been shown to be an effective catalyst for the conversion of 2,4-dichlorobenzoyl chloride to 2-(trifluoromethyl)benzoic acid in alkaline conditions. It also catalyzes the reaction of phenylacetic acid with potassium hydroxide in neutral conditions. The mechanism of this catalytic process is currently not well understood but it is believed that there are two possible pathways: one involving a hemiacetal intermediate and another involving an aldehyde intermediate.
